Chinese knock off products.?
This is a funny question - get to share our horror stories (or stories of being impressed). I have both...

For WORST:

- DVDs that were filmed in the theatre. Not only is the sound quality awful (with delays to the sound, as sound travels slower than light), but you can see shadows of people%26#039;s heads walking by, as the people go to sit down in the movie theatre. You can even hear people talking or laughing, etc, at times, from the theatre. (Certain DVD shops here are more reputable and will tell you if a DVD is poor quality or not. DON%26#039;T go to the places by he side of the road, they will disappear the next day if you try to return a DVD).

- I got a Spanish Penelope Cruz movie (I don%26#039;t speak Spanish), and the subtitles were for another movie. The first scene was in a graveyard, and the subtitles were talking about lightspeed and lasers (some sort of Star Wars knock off movie). The funny thing is that the subtitles appeared at the same time that the people were talking, so it looked legit. Only, I couldn%26#039;t watch that movie.

- Shoes. A guy I know got some Puma shoes. The quality is terrible, so there is no way for the feet to get air/breath inside, so your feet end up getting super-hot and sweaty. Not a good idea to get sports shoes from the fake markets.

- Watches: got a watch the other day, silly me didn%26#039;t look at it closely. The numbers were all too far to the left. So there was a gap on the right side of the watch face with no writing, and on the left, the numbers were slightly cut-off because the numbers were printed too far over :-(. I also got a watch... looked ok, but a week later it died - completely stopped.

- Someone mentioned cellphone batteries... I got a cellphone charger (as I lost my original charger)... thought it can%26#039;t go wrong. It charged for about 5 minutes. And now whenever I put in a battery, it says %26quot;Error%26quot; and it does not charge. So in the end I had to pay (a hefty sum) for an original charger. Those phone companies make a killing!

- A Taxi driver I spoke to bought a fake Motorola Phone for about 200 yuan. Cheap! But when he tried to use it, he found that only the exterior looked like the original. No functions worked. It couldn%26#039;t even make phone calls.

- Have you seen those fake USB memory cards/sticks? They are hollow inside. They just use a UBS wire sticking out, so it LOOKS like a USB memory card.

- The absolute worst is that story about the people selling fake baby milk powder/mix. Children did not get the nutrition they need. Very sad. (It%26#039;s also sad for the fake nutritional items they put in the pet food which was sent to the USA, which killed animals. Or the fake toothepaste sent to USA. Or the medicines that were approved because of payoffs, which turned out to be bad medicines and killed some people).

- These things cause people to not trust products made in China. The government needs to regulate things more. I think they are trying to, but it takes a lot of effort in such a big country.

BEST:

- Two days after the series finale in the USA of HEROES... the entire DVD set was already on the shelves. Amazing efficiency. And the quality was quite good. And if you go to the right DVD shops (with a good reputation), you can get some high quality DVD9%26#039;s, and you can get some pretty good CDs, too... they look and sound original to me! They even have 3D holograms on them, like the originals.

- I bought a Tommy pullover/sweater from a market in Beijing. Seemed good quality. A friend of mine used to work at Tommy, and when I showed her the pullover, she said that the quality was exact... even the labels and the price tag were exactly the same as the original. So I%26#039;m guessing it was real and just smuggled out of the factory. For under 100 yuan, that%26#039;s a heck of a baragin, compared to the original price of over 1000 yuan!

- I like my jeans. Try them on. I negotiated down to 50 yuan (about 6.5 dollars)... even if they fade, etc, you can look at them as disposable. Even Gap jeans are much more expensive (over 40 dollars - the equivalent of 6 pairs from the Chinese market). And I think some of the jeans I have found could be originals.

- Software: If you can find it in English... it can save you lots of money. Although sometimes they do not work, if you get 1 or 2 that do - it%26#039;s worth it (as each sell for about 7 yuan/1 dollar, and the original price can be over 100 times more).

- Video games. You can buy Nintendo or Playstations in China - they take out a copy protection chip - and the pirated software (which costs less than 1 us dollar each) works well. Can save a bundle on original software.

Of course one should not support piracy. It%26#039;s illegal.
Reply:Never buy cell phone batteries in china they will cause explosion.
Reply:Years ago, when the movies were first released in theaters, I got a Mr %26amp; Mrs Smith %26#039;vcd%26#039; and the movie played in black and white. There was a X-Men vcd that was grainy and you could hear people coughing in the background--clearly filmed in a theater.

This year, I saw (but didn%26#039;t buy) flip flops that said Pamu, instead of Puma. Although they looked alright from far away.

I got a LV purse. The purse was alright, but the straps are falling apart. The pieces were glued together instead of stitched together.
Reply:I have many of these proucts.

Recent examples are: a Coby Alarm radio clock from Best Buy. It only last 30 minutes.

A brand new China made Airsoft gun, and it doesn%26#039;t work at all.
Reply:I bought a Polo V-neck sweater in 1998, I still have it and still wear it, it looks brand new

I bought a pair of Nike that did not last a week
Reply:you get what you paid for....

Actually most of the Chinese products(with a name brand, well-established in China) are very reliable. Most of your SONY TV, TOSHIBA DVD and SHARP Camcorders are made in China.
Reply:Don%26#039;t be interested in such things, because it%26#039;s cheap. Even local Chinese don%26#039;t give one glance. They are for deceiving foreigners.
Reply:Reply to the post above

The lower end products of SONY TV, TOSHIBA DVD and SHARP are %26quot;assembled%26quot; in China (but component parts are made in Japan).

%26quot;Assembled%26quot; in China products are usually not as reliable as those products assembled in Malaysia and Thailand.
Reply:spiderman 3 thats is actually spiderman 2 movie.

Harry potter and the order of the pheonix which is an entirely different story
